FWP works closely with tribal governments in Montana on a variety of topics, from wildlife research, AIS monitoring and prevention, and license sales. These partnerships reflect FWP’s commitment to helping manage fish and wildlife across the state and to facilitate hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Those interested in entering a lottery for a guided guaranteed bison hunt on the Blackfeet Reservation will have four (4) opportunities to enter the drawing.

Chances are $10 each, and there is no limit on the number of chances each hunter can purchase. The lottery is open to all hunters – tribal members, non-members, Montana residents, and non-residents. Successful hunters can keep the bison’s head, hide, and meat. Hunters will have a 3-week harvest window starting the following day of the drawing.
To enter the drawing, go to: fwp.mt.gov/buyandapply.
Once there, click on the appropriate button to enter the online license system. The Blackfeet bison lottery opportunity will be an item that applicants can select from the list of all items.
These lottery opportunities can also be purchased at a license provider or FWP office.

Bird hunting is permitted for non-Tribal members on the Flathead Indian Reservation in northwest Montana under a cooperative agreement between the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks.
The following birds are legally permitted for harvest by non-Tribal members:
Pheasants
Gray partridge
Eurasian collared doves
Migratory waterfowl (ducks, mergansers, and geese only)
To hunt on the Flathead Indian Reservation, non-Tribal members must be licensed in accordance with the Flathead Indian Reservation regulations. Call the Kalispell FWP office at 406-752-5501 or the Tribes in Pablo at 406-883-2888 ext. 7200 for more information.
