Improving elk management is a top priority for FWP
Toward that effort, the department has three main efforts happening concurrently:
-
Updating the elk management plan which will involve lengthy public engagement and conclude in 2023
-
Elk Management Citizen Advisory Group is discussing ideas for new solutions to balance hunter and landowner interests
-
Private Lands Public Wildlife Council is helping us look at elk hunting access agreements ("454 agreements") and other statutory programs that direct us to work with landowners to enhance public access
All these efforts involve ample public input and are critical in tackling the complex problems that come with elk management. The work of the PLPW and the advisory group will be reflected in the more comprehensive elk management plan.
