If you are a nonresident college student currently carrying 12 credits or more at a Montana college or university, you can purchase licenses to fish and hunt certain species at a reduced cost. (Required prerequisites are Conservation license, AIS Prevention Pass for fishing licenses, and Base Hunting License for all hunting licenses.)
Licenses go on sale after the second Monday in September at all FWP regional offices, the Helena FWP headquarters, and at our online licensing portal.
Students must provide at the time of purchase, or submit to FWP Headquarters if purchased online, the following:
Current enrollment verification form
Valid student identification
Proof of completing hunter education in Montana or elsewhere
If your state of residence offers resident-rate licenses to Montanans who are full-time college students in that state, and a drawing is not required for the license, you may purchase it for the same price as a resident license. Residents of the states listed below qualify for resident pricing for the specified license.
