Winter is the perfect time to check the condition of your life jacket

Even though most of Montana’s waters are covered in ice right now, boating season is just around the corner! This month take some time to check the condition and fit of your life jacket before boating season arrives. Life jackets don’t last forever and the amount of buoyancy (and life-saving value) your life jacket provides will decrease over time.

Female mountain lion hunting to close in HD’s 404, 421, 444 & 450

The hunting of female mountain lions in Montana hunting districts 404, 421, 444 and 450, which include portions of Teton, Pondera, Chouteau, Cascade, Lewis & Clark counties will close at one-half hour after sunset on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019.

Male mountain lion hunting closed in HD's 211 & 216

The hunting of male mountain lions in western Montana hunting districts 211 and 216, which includes portions of Granite and Missoula counties, closed one-half hour after sunset on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019.

Hunter education classes set to start in Yellowstone County

Hunter education classes are scheduled throughout Yellowstone County starting Feb. 25. Certified volunteers will teach the free Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks classes, which are required for most people to hunt in Montana.

FWP Fisheries Biologists Earn Statewide Awards for Conservation, Restoration Efforts

Kalispell, MT — Two fisheries biologists with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Region 1 received a pair of awards at the annual meeting of the Montana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. Matt Boyer, the science program supervisor for FWP Region 1, was named the Fisheries Professional of the Year. Amber Steed, FWP Region 1 fisheries biologist, received the Best Professional Paper Award.

Male mountain lion hunting to close in district 109

The hunting of male mountain lions in northwestern Montana Hunting District 109, which includes portions of Lincoln County, will close at one-half hour after sunset on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019.
