Ice jams cause emergency closure of Rosebud Isle Fishing Access Site

The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks has closed the Rosebud Isle Fishing Access Site in Stillwater County until further notice. Ice gorging and ice jams on West Rosebud Creek have caused water to channel through the entire site, which is then freezing, and causing dangerous conditions.

Pryor buck permit erroneously listed in application packet

BILLINGS – A special buck mule deer hunting permit that has been in place for many years for the Pryor Mountains in eastern Carbon County has been dropped for the 2019 season. The application packet for buck deer and bull elk permits, which arrived at license dealers this week, erroneously lists the permit as available for the coming year.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks closed the Rosebud Isle fishing access site near Fishtail Friday after an ice jam and flooding created hazardous conditions.

Future Fisheries projects approved

Bull trout, westslope cutthroat trout and rainbow trout will have unrestricted access to Rattlesnake Creek when a project to remove the dam is completed. This project is one of seven that recently received funding by the Montana Fish & Wildlife Commission through the Future Fisheries Improvement Program (FFIP). Approximately $322,000 in funding was approved to improve Montana fisheries.

FWP to hold meeting to discuss non-native status of walleye

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a meeting on Feb. 28 to discuss the non-native status of walleye in Montana. The meeting will be held at the Montana Association of Counties building, 2715 Skyway Drive in Helena at 6 p.m.

All mountain lion hunting to close in HD's 200 & 201

The hunting of all mountain lions in western Montana hunting districts 200 and 201, which includes portions of Mineral, Sanders and Missoula counties, will close one-half hour after sunset on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019.

Anglers catching limited tiger muskie in Region 7 reminded of statewide regs

A couple of tiger muskies were reported caught recently in Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 7, one at Gartside Dam near Sidney and one at Tongue River Reservoir. These are the only waters in the region that have tiger muskies, so it’s a rare and exciting opportunity.

Mountain lion hunting to close in HD’s 210 & 331

The hunting of all mountain lions in western Montana hunting district 210, which includes portions of Missoula and Granite counties, will close at one-half hour after sunset on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019. The hunting of all mountain lions in southwestern Montana hunting district 331, which includes portions of Beaverhead, Silver Bow and Madison counties, will close at one-half hour after sunset on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019.
