Makoshika State Park Campground Expansion Decision Notice
May 19, 2025 9:30 AM
A Decision Notice has been issued for the proposed campground expansion project at Makoshika State Park.
FWP is proposing to expand existing camping and recreational opportunities at the state park by adding up to 16 RV sites with electric hookups, 4 primitive hike / bike campsites and day-use facilities in the Gunner’s Ridge area (0.5 miles southeast of the visitor center) with a playground nearby. The campground would include a dedicated camp host site and public access to Gunners Ridge Trailhead. Hiking and bike trails would connect the new campground to other amenities such as the park’s visitor center, a separate primitive campground loop, picnic shelter, frisbee golf course and trailheads leading to backcountry hiking opportunities. Access road improvements to the new and existing campground loops would also be completed.
Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2), will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment associated with the proposed action and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary. FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves the Alternative 2, the proposed action.
