Unnamed Tributary to West Fork Madison River Culvert Replacement FWP-DN-FSH-R3-24-073
Nov 6, 2024 3:39 PM
Work will include the removal of the remaining 12” x 8’ plastic corrugated pipe that failed and allowed the further degradation of trail 6700 along the West Fork Madison. A new galvanized 18” x 16’ round culvert will be installed within the footprint of the old pipe. Existing conditions include roughly 2’ of existing corrugated plastic pipe at the inlet with the rest of the plastic pipe having been removed. The collapsing of the roadway into the existing pipe has allowed water to erode a roughly 1’ wide x 1’ deep x 12 ‘ long section out of the roadway creating a crossing that has been supported with surrounding rock to aid in vehicle passage. Existing vegetation on site includes willow at the inlet and outlet ends of the culvert, which may have to be removed or relocated to properly install a longer culvert. Other vegetation includes native grasses on the banks along with sedges on the waterline edges.
The applicant is Patrick Luckenbill of the United States Forest Service. The project began, and was completed on, 10/24/2025.
