Fish Creek Road Maintenance and Improvements SPA 124 Permit Application – Lolo National Forest

May 14, 2024 1:25 PM

DECISION NOTICE

The proposed project will protect and enhance the existing road (USFS 343) by (1) adding gravel and improved drainage in various locations and (2) reducing road-stream interactions by re-aligning road segments further from the stream and installing bioengineered riprap at two locations where the stream is eroding into the road prism. Work to alleviate the issue is planned for spring/summer 2024 as part of the larger Road 343 enhancement project.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and, to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2) will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an environmental impact statement or EIS is unnecessary. The project will allow Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to install a screw trap on the Clark Fork River.

FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves Alternative 2, the Proposed Action.
