Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area Addition Decision Notice

May 13, 2024 2:04 PM

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is proposing an approximate 414-acre addition to the Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area (WMA) by fee title acquisition. The addition currently fits between east and west parcels of the WMA, which is located west of Hysham.  Legal public is secured access to the west unit by way of county roads. Legal public access (without crossing private land) to the east unit can only be achieved via the Yellowstone River. The main objective of this project is to create a contiguous WMA, thereby securing Department and public access to the east unit of the WMA.
A Draft Checklist Environmental Assessment was recently made available for public review and comment, and a Decision Notice has now been issued.  Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, FWP review of public comments received on the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the Proposed Action will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve the identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary. FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves the proposed action.
