Road stabilization on the Missouri River (Rainbow Reservoir) Decision Notice

Jun 25, 2024 12:03 PM

Cascade County Public Works has proposed using riprap and/or sandstone to stabilize a bank on Rainbow Reservoir that has eroded to the edge of a public road. If the bank erodes under the road it will not be passable for travel. The project involves placing riprap or sandstone at four eroding spots along the bank and then placing pit run material on top to cap the riprap. Material would be placed approximately three feet out and six feet down in 60 foot stretches. The riprap would be capped with 1 ½ inches of gravel.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and, to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2), will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment associated with the proposed action and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an environmental impact statement or EIS is unnecessary.

FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves Alternative 2, the Proposed Action.
