Jul 18, 2024 4:52 PM

Decision Notice

Jason Parke, forester for FWP, has applied for a Montana Stream Protection Act 124 permit to replace an undersized culvert on an ephemeral tributary to Calf Creek on the Calf Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) east of Hamilton, Montana. The proposed project will replace an existing undersized culvert that is inadequate for log hauling and does not adhere to modern forestry best management practices. The existing culvert will be removed and replaced with an appropriately sized culvert to facilitate road access for crews and equipment. This work is related to a fuels mitigation and habitat improvement project currently underway on the Calf Creek WMA.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and, to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2) will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an environmental impact statement or EIS is unnecessary.

FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves Alternative 2, the Proposed Action.
