Lewis and Clark Overlook Stormwater Mitigation Project Decision Notice FWP-DN-POR-R4-24-027

On July 19th, 2024, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) issued a draft Checklist Environmental Assessment (EA) for the implementation of a proposed stormwater erosion mitigation project on NorthWestern Energy land that is managed by FWP as part of Giant Springs State Park. The project would consist of extending the outflow pipe 104 feet using 15-inch CMP pipe, installing 3 – 48-inch manholes with 12-inch sumps, placing class 1 riprap at the terminus of the piping to dissipate the energy of the stormwater discharge, and restoration and seeding of the disturbed areas with a native seed mix.
Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment and the proposed action constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve the identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary. FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves the Alternative 2, the proposed action.
