Black Talon Private Pond License Review FWP-DN-FSH-R3-24-085
Dec 31, 2024 11:23 AM
A private landowner is applying for a Private Fish Pond License and proposes to stock Rainbow Trout in an unnamed private pond. The pond is a 1.6 surface acre pond located about one mile west of the North Boulder River near Cardwell. The pond is not connected to a waterway and is outside the floodplain. It is fed by groundwater, and the outlet is screened with an agri-drain structure. There is no documented fish presence. There are no documented Montana Species of Special Concern in the vicinity of the pond. Risk of escapement is low. Rainbow Trout are present in the nearest surface water system (North Boulder River) and are an approved species for stocking the pond. Rainbow Trout could be removed from the pond via chemical treatments or stocking can be stopped to let the fish age out.
The project is sponsored by the private landowner, and the license would be active for 10 years from the year of issuance (2024). The license can be renewed for additional 10-year intervals at the end of each term, and the license is transferable.
