Judith Landing State Park Acquisition and Development Decision Notice FWP-SEA-POR-R4-24-001

On November 15th, 2024, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks issued a draft standard environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed acquisition and development of the Judith Landing State Park, a 109-acre property near Winifred in north-central Montana. The land was donated to the Montana State Parks Foundation, who intends to transfer the property to FWP where it may become Montana’s 56th state park. The EA solicited public comment on the acquisition and development of the property, with a public comment period that ended on Dec. 14. FWP received 31 comments during that time and has issued a decision notice regarding the EA.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment associated with the proposed action and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary.  

With this action, FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves the Alternative 2, the proposed action.

The acquisition of the proposed Judith Landing State Park property will be presented to the Montana State Parks and Recreation Board on December 20th, 2024, for review.
