Madison Conservation District Moore Creek Restoration FWP-DN-FSH-R3-24-059
Aug 2, 2024 3:58 PM
This project will restore approximately 5,245 feet of Moore Creek and increase wetland acreage by 4.57 acres. The project goals include improving aquatic, riparian, and terrestrial habitat diversity for fish and wildlife; restoring a self-maintaining stream channel that includes complex aquatic habitat features including riffles, runs, pools, and glides; converting areas within the existing upland plant communities to emergent and scrub-shrub wetlands by creating new, lower floodplain surfaces; restoring willows and riparian shrub communities in patches along streambanks and within portions of the floodplain; reclaiming the existing channelized section of Moore Creek to restore wetland hydrology; ensuring restoration actions are compatible with and support existing and future land use activities on the ranch including agriculture and grazing; integrating a grazing management plan which includes fenced enclosures, water gaps, and stream crossings to prevent damage to the restored stream channel and floodplain vegetation.
The project is proposed by Colin Threlkeld of the Madison Conservation District and will occur between 09/01/2024 and 11/30/2025.
