Grey Bear Fishing Access Site Parking Area Improvements Decision Notice

Jun 12, 2023 1:31 PM

On April 12, 2023, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to expand the parking area at Grey Bear Fishing Access Site (FAS) west of Big Timber on the Yellowstone River. Currently, the parking area can accommodate approximately 10 vehicles and does not meet the high use at the site. Because of the limited space, users often park along North Yellowstone Trail Road, resulting in congested and hazardous conditions for the public.

FWP proposed to develop a parking area within the confines of the FAS that would provide up to 20 additional parking sites.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP has determined the proposed action (Alternative 2), as modified, will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment associated with the proposed action, and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary.

With this DN, FWP hereby adopts the Final EA, without modifications, and approves the proposed action.
