Grey Bear Fishing Access Site Parking Area Improvements

Apr 12, 2023 1:11 PM

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released an Environmental Assessment (EA) to expand the parking area at Grey Bear fishing access site (FAS) west of Big Timber on the Yellowstone River. The parking area improvements would increase public access and safety at the site.

The parking area can currently accommodate approximately 10 vehicles and does not meet the high use at the site. Because of the limited space, users often park along North Yellowstone Trail Road, resulting in congested and hazardous conditions for the public.

FWP proposes to develop an additional parking lot within the confines of the site south of the existing parking lot along with an interior roadway that would allow travel between the two lots. The new parking area would provide up to 20 additional parking sites. The proposed project also includes the installation of gates to restrict developed access during the off-season and application of imported gravel to improve driving conditions.
