MILL CREEK MEADOW SPRING CREEK DECISION NOTICE

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks recently distributed a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) proposing the removal of non-native brook trout from a small spring tributary to Mill Creek, which is a conservation stronghold for native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The proposed action is to remove brook trout using electrofishing and nets in the fall, when brook trout are heavily concentrated in the spring creek. Removal is expected to begin this fall and will continue until the brook trout population is eradicated, which may occur after one season of removals.
Noting and including the response to public comments, the draft EA will become the final EA and together with this decision notice will serve as the final documents for this proposal.
