Draft Environmental Assessment - Fence replacement to improve wildlife movement in grassland habitat

Jul 8, 2022 12:20 PM

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is requesting public comment on a proposed Environmental Assessment (EA) draft for proposed work that will target fencing infrastructure to help improve wildlife movements while maintaining agricultural operations.  Additional information is below.

The proposal is to work with interested landowners in Rosebud County on improving fences that appear to be limiting wildlife movements. Utilizing recent GPS data being collected from collared pronghorn as part of the Pronghorn Movement and Population Ecology Study and funds obtained by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant, FWP staff will work with interested landowners to provide new fence materials and wildlife friendly specifications to replace up to 45 miles of fence.

A Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared by FWP and is available for public comment from July 8, 2022 to July 22, 2022, 5:00 p.m. Written comments may be submitted to:
