Mill Creek Yellowstone cutthroat trout conservation
Jul 6, 2022 9:45 AM
This draft EA is to remove nonnative brook trout from a small spring tributary to Mill Creek, which is a conservation stronghold for native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The preferred alternative is to use electrofishing to mechanically remove brook trout from the small spring tributary and adjacent portions of Mill Creek. Brook trout are known to compete with Yellowstone cutthroat trout in mountain streams and removing brook trout from the spring tributary is expected to reduce conservation risk to Yellowstone cutthroat in Mill Creek. Removals are expected to occur each fall, when brook trout are highly concentrated near spawning areas. Removals may continue until brook trout are no longer captured or up to 10 years.
