BILLINGS – Lailani Upham, an Amskapi Pikuni (Blackfeet) tribal member and Aaniiih, Nakoda and Dakota tribal descendent, will present “Connecting to land through a tribal lens” at Pictograph Cave State Park on Friday, June 7, at 4 p.m. Upham is a journalist, photographer, educator and business developer in indigenous stories and culture.
During the presentation, Upham will speak about indigenous stories that offer a unique way to understand the power of the natural world and the human connections to it. Through a discussion about indigenous peoples’ ways of life, value systems, tribal languages and stories, participants will learn about indigenous peoples’ relationship to the natural world. Upham’s presentation is intended to make attendees ponder our responsibility to and stewardship of the earth, explore ways to positively influence future generations, and discover how humans can connect to the natural world.
The presentation will last approximately one hour and take place outside at the park’s picnic area or inside the visitor center classroom, depending on weather. Pictograph Cave State Park is located just outside of Billings at 3401 Coburn Road.
