Temporary closure on upper Yellowstone River lifted

May 29, 2024 3:51 PM

EMIGRANT – A section of the upper Yellowstone River that was closed temporarily this month has been reopened.

The closure began on May 22 and extended from the U.S. Forest Service Yankee Jim River Access to the Bureau of Land Management Carbella Rec Site, south of Emigrant. The closure was implemented to mitigate public safety risks while crews work to replace Carbella Bridge on Tom Miner Creek Road during high river flows.

High flows persist in this section of the Yellowstone River, as well as in other rivers throughout the state. Recreationists are encouraged to use caution when visiting rivers, especially during times of high flows, because of unseen hazards that can change suddenly.
