Join in on Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park’s largest volunteer event of the year

WHITEHALL – Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park will host an event next month bringing together volunteers to repair trails and manage weeds at the park in connection with Earth Day.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 20. Volunteers who wish to participate should arrive at the campground pavilion near the lower visitor center at 8:15 a.m.

Volunteers and park staff will be repairing the park’s damaged and winter-worn trails, as well as removing invasive weeds to keep the park healthy and easy to use. No experience is needed, and the park will provide some equipment, as necessary. If volunteers have tools for moving dirt or removing weeds, it is recommended that they bring them. Volunteers should also bring gloves, sturdy shoes, clothing for outdoor work and a lunch. All trail work will be on foot.

Volunteers play a significant role in taking care of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park and preparing the park for the upcoming summer season. This year’s trail repair event celebrates 54 years of Earth Day, an international holiday that includes many other environmental service projects happening around the world.
