Bear Aware Month continues with video series

First video features interview with survivor of grizzly bear attack

HELENA – In 2020, Matthew Churchman, an avid fly angler and adventurer, went on a routine overnight float with friends and family. The event that happened in the morning left a permanent scar on Churchman, but it inspired him to spread his message of the importance of being bear aware.

As part of Bear Aware Month, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will run a series of videos featuring bear aware content. In the first video, Churchman tells the story of his encounter with a grizzly bear and the lessons he learned.
