FWP seeks comments on bank stabilization project at Black Sandy State Park

GREAT FALLS – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comments on a proposal to conduct a bank stabilization and erosion mitigation project at Black Sandy State Park near Helena.
This project would help to mitigate the effects of shoreline erosion at the park. Currently land is eroding where tent sites are located, making them smaller and creating safety issues at the shoreline as the bank becomes steeper and less stable in areas where people frequent. The erosion is also causing siltation of the waterbody (Hauser Lake) which degrades water quality.
The project would utilize slope grading, willow plantings, erosion matting, and creating defined public water access points.
A draft environmental assessment (EA) has been prepared for this project. To view the EA, visit https://fwp.mt.gov/public-notices/news/2022/feb/0301-black-sandy-bank-stabilization-draft-ea
Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on April 1 and can be emailed to: cputchat@mt.gov
