Great Falls elk plan public scoping meeting rescheduled

Jul 20, 2022 4:21 PM

GREAT FALLS - A public scoping meeting scheduled in Great Falls on Montana’s elk management plan has been moved to an earlier date.

The Great Falls meeting was originally planned for Aug. 22, but due to scheduling conflicts, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has moved the meeting to Monday, Aug. 15.

The meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at FWP’s regional office on Giant Springs Road in Great Falls.

Dates and locations for all of the 11 public meetings held around Region 4 can be found here.

FWP is in the process of revising the statewide Elk Management Plan last adopted in 2005. At this step in the revision, FWP is seeking input on the existing elk population objectives and local elk management challenges that should be considered in the update. Input gathered during the local meetings will be used with information obtained at the statewide scale to develop a draft Elk Management Plan.

In addition, a public comment period will be open from June 20 to Oct. 15. Comments can be submitted online or emailed to FWPWLD@mt.gov.

Once the draft Elk Management Plan has been developed and released, there will be additional public comment opportunities offered.
