Caverns Campground Amphitheater Program: Safety in bear and cougar country

Aug 24, 2021 5:26 PM

WHITEHALL – Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park will present a free talk entitled “Safety in Bear and Cougar Country” on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m. in the park’s campground amphitheater.

Should I yell? Should I make myself big? Or small? And do those bear bells really work? These are common questions visitors have when hiking in bear and cougar country, says FWP Ranger Ramona Radonich.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is home to both bears and cougars. By being prepared and knowing what to do in the event of an encounter, people can be safe and enjoy hiking the 10 miles of trails in the park.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is about 15 miles southeast of Whitehall, along Montana Highway 2. For more information about the park, please visit stateparks.mt.gov/lewis-and-clark-caverns or call 406-287-3541.
