Caverns Friday Summer Speakers Series: ‘Flowery Language’

How to speak fluently in the language of flowers
WHITEHALL – Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park will host a free talk entitled “Flowery Language” on Friday, Aug. 6, at 8 p.m. in the park’s campground amphitheater.
When you think of Valentine’s Day, does an image of red roses pop into your mind? Flower symbolism has been around for ages, and many of us speak “un peu du langage des fleurs,” or a bit of the language of flowers. But how can you know for sure whether your wedding bouquet means “undying love” or “you repulse me”?
In this talk by AmeriCorps member Emily Dickerson, you’ll learn the history of the language of flowers as well as some wildflower meanings to help you translate your thoughts into blooms.
This is the 11th presentation in Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park’s annual Friday Summer Speakers Series, which introduces a new speaker each Friday at 8 p.m. throughout the summer.
Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is about 15 miles southeast of Whitehall, along Montana Highway 2. For more information about the park, please visit stateparks.mt.gov/lewis-and-clark-caverns or call 406-287-3541.
About the speaker
Emily Dickerson is an AmeriCorps member at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. As a child, she received “A Little Book of Manners” by Emilie Barnes for her sixth birthday, and thus began a lifelong interest in etiquette and culture. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in anthropology, she quickly found her way to Montana, where her interest in flowers truly began to bloom. After two years of giving wildflower walks and talks, she has decided to return to one of her favorite subjects with this prim and proper campground talk.
