Is Your Residence Bear-Friendly?

Photo of a residence.

Being bear-friendly in Montana is a commitment. Sometimes it may mean sacrificing the opportunity to see a bear or take pictures of it—for the welfare of the bear. It may also mean taking extra steps to prevent bears from finding sources of food on your property.

Once a bear is food trained, it is difficult and often times impossible to retrain them. That is why biologist so often say a fed bear is a dead bear.

Here is a self-assessment to help you make certain your residence isn't sending any undesirable bear messages.

Once you have filled out the assessment form, you can contact a bear manager near you for more information and assistance.
