Returning Home From Camping

Learn what to take camping. What you take will depend on where you're going and how long you plan to be away.

It is important to take care of your gear when you return from your trip so it is in good working order the next time you go camping. If you put something away broken, wet, or with missing parts you may not find these issues until you're setting up camp the next time, and that's too late.

Repair any equipment that was worn or damaged during your trip so it is ready for the next one. Replace any non-perishable items you used, such as matches and candles, and first aid supplies.

Make note of the things you forgot, wished you had brought, or didn't bring enough of. Keep your notes on file to review before your next trip.

Make notes of what you learned about your camping and hiking locations and things you want to see or do on your next trip to the area. Attach the notes to the park map for future easy reference.
