Canoeing on the Blackfoot

Blackfoot River recreation management and planning dates back to the late 1960’s when private landowners and river advocates, working with managing agencies, sought ways to protect the river resources and adjacent lands while at the same time providing recreational opportunities for the public. These efforts laid the groundwork for future recreation management on the Blackfoot, pioneered the concept of providing public access on private land, and set a precedent for collaborative resource and recreation management.
