Big Hole River
First adopted in 1999 to address public concerns about crowding, the Beaverhead and Big Hole River Recreation Rules were re-evaluated in 2005, 2010 and 2015. The FWP Commission adopted minor changes to the rules in 2010 and 2015 based on public input. The rules will be reviewed again in 2020.
In December 2015, the Commission asked the public to comment on the effectiveness of the current rules. The majority of the responses stated that the rules have improved the recreation experience and should be retained. A few minor changes were made, which the Commission approved in February 2016. These Rules will be reviewed every five years to assess their effectiveness.
The new Rules became effective on June 17, 2016 and are posted below.
