Categorical Exclusion: A level of environmental review for agency action that does not individually, collectively, or cumulatively cause significant impacts to the human environment, as determined by rulemaking or programmatic review, and for which an EA or EIS is not required.
Environmental Assessment (EA): The appropriate level of environmental review for actions that either does not significantly affect the human environment or for which the agency is uncertain whether an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required.
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS): A comprehensive evaluation of the impacts to the human environment that likely would result from an agency action or reasonable alternatives to that action. An EIS also serves as a public disclosure of agency decision-making.
MEPA: Montana Environmental Policy Act of 1971.
NEPA: National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.
Snowmobile: Self-propelled vehicle with overall width of 48 inches or less, designed primarily for travel on snow or ice, which may be steered by skis or runners and which is not otherwise registered or licensed under Montana laws.
Sponsor Contribution: Sponsor funds, value of donated labor, materials and equipment.
Sponsor: The eligible organization that submits a grant application, is responsible for completion of the project, signs agreements and contracts with the State, etc., is the grant sponsor.
Trailhead Facilities: Include such items as signs, unloading platforms, parking lots, shelters, rest rooms, bicycle racks, hitching rails, etc.
