This grant program can be used to fund motor boating improvement projects at local government owned or managed motor boating sites throughout Montana. Typical facilities eligible for funding include boat ramps, launching facilities, on-site latrines, boat trailer parking areas, boating facility access roads, boat docks, and facility improvements for disabled boaters. Following are examples of typical eligible and non-eligible projects. Please do not hesitate to call the Parks Division with questions regarding specific proposals.
Eligible
- Pre-planning expenditures that require out-of-pocket expenses (non-municipal staff time) for such things as environmental analysis (MEPA/NEPA compliance), permitting, and engineering are reimbursable up to 15% of the total estimated project amount.
- Construction of boating facilities.
- Construction or rehabilitation of boat ramps or launching facilities.
- Installation of latrines that will benefit boaters.
- Installation or rehabilitation of boat trailer parking areas, roads, and related access improvements.
- Docks and other facility improvements that will benefit boaters.
- Facility improvements that will directly assist disabled boaters.
Not Eligible
- Land acquisition.
- Construction of boating facilities or improvements on lands not owned or controlled by the local governmental agency applying for the grant.
- Projects with a primary focus on non-motor boating activities or infrastructure.
- On-going maintenance of a site or project.
- Projects that displace fish and wildlife species or reduce habitat effectiveness; cause irreparable damage to vegetation, soils, water and wild public lands or substantially increase user conflicts.
- Projects managed as profit making entities.
- Projects that cause adverse environmental impacts that cannot be mitigated.
- Projects without all appropriate state, federal, and local permits.
