Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is extending the public comment period on the environmental assessment of an easement that would give the Tongue River Railroad Company a right-of-way over land occupied by FWP’s Miles City Fish Hatchery.
The easement and right of way is required for the sole purpose of constructing and operating a single track railroad line, together with bridges, culverts, crossings, rails, ties, ballasts, signals, wires, switches, and other materials in, on, over and across land owned by the MCFH. This action will impact 24.85 acres of the total 242.25-acre site located west of Miles City, Montana

The enclosed Decision Notice has been prepared for the Burnt Tree Hole Fishing Access Site Improvement Project Environmental Assessment. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) proposes to replace the deteriorated boat ramp and redesign the ramp approach/loop roads at Burnt Tree Hole FAS on the Upper Madison River. Three public comments were received during a 31-day comment period ending 5:00 p.m. on October 14, 2008.

It is my decision to proceed with the proposed project with no changes to the Draft EA.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has hired a consultant to conduct an environmental assessment (EA) for the purpose of establishing the Paul Taylor Memorial Fishing Access Site in Region One. There are two potential locations on Lake Five in Flathead County for consideration of developing a fishing access site. FWP currently owns one of the properties, and the other property under consideration would be purchased and/or traded from a private landowner. Development at the site would include parking, vault toilet, boat ramp, signs and gates, entrance road improvements, and a host pad. A copy of the draft is attached.
Two public hearings are scheduled: December 3, 2008, 6-8 p.m., at the Hungry Horse Ranger District office, 10 Hungry Horse Drive, Hungry Horse, Montana; and December 10, 2008, 6-8 p.m., at the FWP public meeting room, 490 N Meridian Road, Kalispell, Montana.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has issued a Decision Notice to acquire 77.6 acres of land along the Bitterroot River 3 miles south of Missoula, MT. FWP proposes to acquire the property in fee title. This action will require approval from the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission. FWP will request approval at the monthly Commission meeting scheduled for December 11, 2008.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on a proposal to protect the state’s largest known ponderosa pine tree by stabilizing and reestablishing the nearby stream bank. The pine stands along the bank of Fish Creek at the Big Pine Fishing Access Site (FAS), approximately 40 miles west of Missoula on Fish Creek Road.

The Department had initially proposed to acquire approximately 134 acres from the Lewis Construction Company located along the Sun River in Cascade County between the towns of Vaughn and Sun River for a cost of $150,000. Under a revised agreement with the landowner, FWP will purchase a total of 164 acres for a total cost of $235,000. The purpose of the acquisition is to create a new public Fishing Access Site.
