Volunteer Advisory Committee Selection Criteria

Selection for committee membership was based on candidates who fit some or all of the following criteria:

  • Willingness to participate in a comprehensive approach (not single issue).
  • Willingness to work towards consensus on controversial issues.
  • Able to make adequate time commitment towards completion of the project.
  • Contributes to a diverse committee.
  • Committee size: no more than 14 members (additional people are welcome to attend all committee meetings as observers).

The following interests were considered to represent a wide range of perspectives. In an effort to keep this working group to an effective size, some members represent several perspectives. All members are asked to seriously consider all issues, public comment and available research, to make recommendations that are in the best interest of the park resources and the public.

  • Park neighbor
  • Tribal affiliation
  • Member of a regional tourism organization or commercial operation
  • Historian with military emphasis
  • Education and interpretation background
  • Local government representative such as a County Commissioner or State Legislator
  • Natural resources
  • Mineral development
  • Recreation
  • Kobold family
  • Regional history interest, such as County Historical Commission, Frontier Heritage Association, Fort Phil Kearney, Bozeman Trail, Little Bighorn Battle
  • State History perspective/Archeology/Ethnographer
  • Membership or affiliation with a frequent park user group
  • Membership with a group or organization who has been involved with or expressed interest in Rosebud Battlefield management activities
  • Member of a regional park and recreation agency (city, county, state, Fed.)
