Seeley Lake Waters Reopened to all Recreation

Seeley Lake waters are open again to boating and other recreation, effective immediately. The lake has been under a temporary emergency closure since August 1 while planes scooped water from the lake to fight the Rice Ridge Fire.

With nights getting longer and cooler, a couple of sections of the Big Hole River and the Lower Beaverhead River in southwest Montana have met the criteria for lifting fishing restrictions.

Bitterroot River Will See Fishing Restrictions Thursday

Warm water temperatures have triggered "hoot-owl" fishing restrictions, beginning Thursday, August 3, on the Bitterroot River from Veteran’s Bridge on Highway 93 just north of Hamilton, downstream to the confluence with the Clark Fork in Missoula (approximately 55 miles).

Fire Suppression Forces Closure of Seeley Lake Waters

FWP is closing all of Seeley Lake waters, effective immediately, for public safety while crews use the lake water to fight the Rice Ridge Fire.

High water temperatures and low stream flows have prompted Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to implement “hoot owl” restrictions on several rivers in Southwest Montana starting Wednesday.
