With criteria being met under the drought management plan, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will reopen the last remaining closed section of the Big Hole River to fishing effective Tuesday.
This lowermost section, from Notch Bottom Fishing Access Site to the confluence with the Beaverhead River, had been under some form of restriction since July 19.
There are no longer any restrictions on southwest Montana rivers.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is alerting the public that angling restrictions on the Upper Big Hole River have been lifted given improved conditions.
Section I of the Big Hole from Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadows Road to the mouth of the North Fork Big Hole River is now open to fishing.

Seeley Lake waters are open again to boating and other recreation. The lake has been under a temporary emergency closure while aircraft used most of the lake to draw water to fight the Rice Ridge Fire.
Fire crews may continue to scoop water from portions of the lake, so boaters must be alert for aircraft and stay clear of fire suppression operations.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will lift the hoot owl restrictions on the lower Madison River from Ennis Dam to the mouth effective Friday. With cooler water temperatures, this section has met criteria for reopening.

Lake Frances next to the town of Valier in Pondera County was reopened 12:01 a.m., Sept. 15, to all public recreation. The lake was under a temporary emergency closure while aircraft used the lake to draw water to fight wildfires on the Rocky Mountain Front.

Fishing restrictions on the Smith River were lifted at 12:01 a.m., Sept. 15, according to Fish, Wildlife and Parks policy.
The Smith had been closed since July 9 to daily fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight because of increased water temperatures.
