White Deer Meadows Conservation Easement

Acquisitions, Trades & Leases

The attached Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for a proposed conservation easement of approximately 405 acres of private land on the west side of the Bridger Mountains north of Belgrade, Montana. The property abuts US Forest Service land and other private lands with conservation easements. The parcel contains critical winter range for mule deer. Its south-facing mountain foothills, native shrub and grasslands, riparian areas, and agricultural acres are important wildlife habitat for elk, white-tailed deer, black bear, mountain lion, mountain grouse, Merriam’s turkey, and other wildlife species. The proposed easement would provide public hunting access during general hunting seasons to the mountain foothills portion of the property in perpetuity (about 170 hunter-days per year), as well as protection of the 405 acres as intact wildlife habitat without further subdivision. There will be a public meeting regarding this proposal September 11 from 6-8 pm at Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 3 Headquarters, 1400 South 19 Avenue, Bozeman MT 59718. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks invites you to comment on the attached proposal. The public comment period will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. September 27, 2018.
