Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks proposes to renew the Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area-German Gulch grazing lease for a 10-year term. This grazing lease is part of a cooperative grazing program with the U.S. Forest Service on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. It consists of a rest-rotation grazing system and would encompass approximately 20,000 acres. This cooperative grazing system allows for landscape level management of elk winter range, along with wildlife habitat in general, across ownerships and has demonstrated the compatibility of livestock production and wildlife/recreation-based economies. This Draft EA is available for review in Helena at FWP’s Headquarters, the State Library, and the Environmental Quality Council. It also may be obtained from the Bozeman or Butte FWP offices, or viewed on FWP’s website: http://www.fwp.mt.gov.
