Hay Creek Land Acquisition Amended Draft EA

Acquisitions, Trades & Leases

12/12/2008

Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has amended the Hay Creek draft EA issued in September 2008 that proposes FWP acquire approximately 53 acres of fisheries habitat along the North Fork of the Flathead River south of Polebridge. We amended the draft EA to include additional information about the property transaction. At the time of acquisition, FWP will be conveying a perpetual conservation easement to the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), who is funding the acquisition to mitigate for fisheries impacts of Hungry Horse dam. FWP is seeking additional public comment for the proposed Hay Creek land acquisition along with the proposed conservation easement. FWP has amended the project description and the checklist EA to include the conservation easement terms or limitations. The amended draft environmental assessment is out for a 28-day public review through 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2009. A copy is attached for your review. Please contact Fisheries Conservation Specialist John Wachsmuth at (406) 751-4554 or e-mail to jwachsmuth@mt.gov with questions or comments.
