Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has prepared the enclosed draft environmental assessment (EA) for the Keyser Preservation Trust Wetland Restoration project. The purpose of the project is the restoration of a drained wetland basin that is partially on the Ninepipe Wildlife Management Area and partially on the Keyser Preservation Trust, a property encumbered with a USFWS conservation easement, in Lake County. The conversion from stocking Yellowstone cutthroat trout to WCT is being done because of hatchery issues (problems with raising the current stock in the hatchery) with the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Yellowstone cutthroat hatchery brood stock and reports that WCT do well in lake systems. Genetically pure westslope cutthroat trout will be moved from North Fork Deep Creek to a stream reach above a waterfall barrier on Middle Fork Camas Creek. A total of 100 to 300 WCT will be transferred over a 2 – 3 year period; 50 –100 WCT will be transferred annually. (Species Removal & Relocation - 03/29/2005)
