On April 10, 2014, the Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold a public hearing at Whitefish City Hall, 418 Second Street East, Whitefish, Montana, to consider the proposed amendment and adoption of recreational use rules on Whitefish River. (ARM Rules - 03/13/2014)
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) is proposing to renew the grazing lease for the Vandalia Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for 3 years, until September 15, 2016. The 310 acre property is located approximately 2.5 miles southeast of Hinsdale MT. Grazing would continue to be managed under the current rest-rotation grazing system. During this extension, a management plan for this WMA will be developed evaluating habitat conditions, role of livestock grazing, and management priorities for this area. (Acquisitions, Trades & Leases - 03/11/2014)
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is proposing a project to restore native westslope cutthroat trout to upper Big Camas Creek and Camas Lake (see attached map). Restoration would require the removal of non-native fishes with an Environmental Protection Agency piscicide containing rotenone. Detoxification of rotenone would occur on national forest lands approximately 0.75 miles upstream from private lands (see attached map). No other westslope cutthroat restoration projects are planned for the Camas Creek Drainage. Historically, Camas Creek and its tributaries would have supported westslope cutthroat trout (westslope) in approximately 43 miles of stream. Currently, the only remaining population of non-hybridized westslope in the Camas drainage is located in Middle Fork Camas Creek (see attached map). This population is the result of a transfer of genetically pure westslope from a population in the Castle Mountains (2002 and 2003). (Decision Notices - 03/05/2014)
The attached Environmental Assessment (EA) addresses the proposed “Renewal of Agricultural Leases on the Canyon Ferry Wildlife Management Area”. This proposal would renew existing agricultural leases for the next 5-year lease period (2014 – 2018) on the Canyon Ferry Wildlife Management Area near Townsend, MT.
This Draft EA may be obtained from FWP at the address provided above or viewed on FWP’s Internet website: http://www.fwp.mt.gov .
