Montana, Fish, Wildlife and Parks is soliciting public input to help with identifying issues and criteria that the Commission would consider in authorizing the potential take of peregrine falcons for falconry purposes.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has issued the Decision Notice (DN) for its proposal (documented in the Draft EA) to purchase approximately 20 acres in the Alberton Gorge along the Clark Fork River. The property would become part of the Alberton Gorge Recreational Corridor. FWP will recommend to the FWP Commission on December 14, 2006 that FWP purchase this land (“Stranahan Acquisition”). This purchase would also require approval of the Montana Land Board, scheduled in December.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has issued its Decision Notice for its proposal (documented in the Little Doney Draft EA) to purchase 180 acres near Ovando Mountain from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, at a price of $270,000. The Jacobsen/Valiton property is located about 7 miles NE of Ovando (in Powell County, Region 2 of FWP), adjacent to the Blackfoot-Clearwater Wildlife Management Area at the base of Ovando Mountain. FWP will recommend to the FWP Commission on December 14, 2006, that FWP purchase the 180-acre Jacobsen/Valiton property, using Habitat Montana Funds and other assistance from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

After public review and a comment period, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) recommends to purchase 367.92 acres near Lyman Creek, located about 6 miles northeast of Sula, from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, at a price of $625,500. FWP would later exchange the property with DNRC for inholdings in the Calf Creek and Threemile Wildlife Management Areas. The Lyman Creek property is located within the Sula State Forest and the Bitterroot National Forest. DNRC properties within the Calf Creek WMA are located about 8 miles east of Hamilton and DNRC properties associated with the Threemile WMA are located about 9 miles northeast of Stevensville.
