Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has completed a supplemental environmental assessment (EA) for a permit application from Flathead County for boat ramp construction on Church Slough (T28N, R21W, S36). After reviewing public comments and additional information, FWP has decided to uphold the previous decision to provide a permit to Flathead County for the construction of a concrete boat ramp on Church Slough. The decision based on the EA concludes that the approval of the county’s plans to install the boat ramp at the slough does not conflict with any local, state, or federal laws. The EA attracted a large number of comments; the great majority of the 150 comments supported the county’s proposal. The questions and comments with FWP responses are contained in the Decision Notice for the Permit Application from Flathead County for Boat Ramp Construction on Church Slough Supplemental EA.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) proposed to acquire approximately 36 acres of land in Lewis and Clark County, Montana along Prickly Pear Creek for the purpose of establishing a fishing access site (FAS). Prickly Pear Land Trust, the current landowner, has offered to donate the property in fee title to FWP. The proposed FAS is located 3.5 miles northeast of Helena north of Olsen Road in the Helena Valley in Lewis and Clark County. The proposed FAS would provide public access to Prickly Pear Creek for fishing, picnicking, walking, wildlife viewing, and other uses. A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) was available for public comment from June 14 to July 14, 2013. Ten comments were received from eleven respondents during the public comment period. No comments voiced opposition to the proposed acquisition of the parcel. Two respondents raised issues that were not addressed in the Environmental Assessment, which were responded to in the Decision Notice. Based on public comments, there were no modifications to the draft EA. The draft EA and the decision notice serve as the final documents for this proposed action, and MFWP has decided to implement the proposed action and recommend acceptance of the parcel to the FWP Commission.
