Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) proposes to purchase by fee title 2,840 acres known as “Whitetail Prairie” from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) for its appraised value of $4,075,000. The property adjoins the 32,320 acre FWP owned and managed Beartooth Wildlife Management Area (BTWMA). FWP proposes to use a combination of FWP Habitat Montana Program (1/4) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Pittman Robertson dollars (3/4) to fund the purchase. The property contains very important intermountain/foothill grassland habitat and recreational values. In addition to the acquisition, the grazing leases on adjoining Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) lands associated with the Whitetail Prairie property would be transferred to FWP, 200 and 640 acres respectively.

Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks (FWP), Region 1, has written a draft environmental assessment (EA) for the Pine Grove Pond Fishing Access Site Proposed South Acquisition for the purpose of acquiring two additional parcels of land totaling 4.26 acres between the Whitefish River and Pine Grove Pond FAS for the purpose of providing additional access to the Whitefish River and providing a buffer between the busy FAS and neighboring private land. The proposed addition would access nearly 750 feet of river shore. FWP also proposes to accept the donation of .33 acres of land adjacent to the existing parking area and construct a parking area to provide additional parking and to reduce vehicle congestion along the access road.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment (EA) proposing the disposition of 145 disease-free bison from the state to augment or create existing bison herds. Under consideration are four different organizations throughout the United States which are Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes at the Fort Peck Reservation, Cherokee Tribe of Oklahoma, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and Wildlife Conservation Society Zoo Consortium. The bison were part of the Bison Quarantine Feasibility Study (QFS), a research project that began in 2004 directed by FWP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to produce bison free of brucellosis. The bison that have completed all phases of the quarantine study and are currently being held at the Green Ranch near Bozeman Montana.

The Thompson Falls Trap Club, PO Box 1112, Thompson Falls, MT 59873, proposes to repair or replace the clubhouse handicap access ramp; the floor in trap storage building; replace the heating unit, and insulate the club house. The Thompson Falls Trap Club has applied for a grant under the Montana Shooting Range Development Program for $3,552.00 in partial funding of the $7,104.00 for the cost and labor of the repairs.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) released a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to provide the Park County Rod and Gun Club with a Montana Shooting Range Development Grant. The range is located on 62 acres of leased private land, 3 miles north of Livingston, Montana at 154 Meigs Road, Livingston, Montana 59047; Lat. 45.70048, Long. -110.57487. Section 35, Township 1 South, Range 9 East. FWP will provide up to $5,901 in partial funding for the Park County Rod and Gun Club’s proposed improvements: Building one new pistol bay adjoining the existing pistol bay. By utilizing a common wall with the existing bay, only one additional sidewall and one back-wall will be required for the new bay. Applying road mix in the floors of the new berms. Installing a concrete pad at the shooting lines in the new bay. Fabricating and installing target supports in the pistol bay.
