Due to changing flows of the Missouri River and winter ice jams, river currents have undercut, scoured, and eroded the boat ramp and launch staging area. As a result, boat
launching has become difficult and unsafe. FWP proposes to construct a new boat ramp in a more protected location, move the launch staging area, and move and expand the parking area.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) proposes to purchase a 40 acre parcel of grazing, agricultural and forest lands in the Big Snowy Mountains, approximately 20 miles south of Lewistown, MT from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF). This parcel borders mainly private land, but contains a ~30 foot corner overlap (hereafter, public access point) of United States Forest Service (USFS; Lewis and Clark National Forest, Judith Ranger District) land. This purchase would increase public access in the Big Snowy Mountains, Fergus County, MT. Funding will be provided by MFWP’s Access Public Lands (APL) program. If the property is acquired, a parking area, non-motorized trail and signage will be established that leads to this public access point onto USFS property, thereby minimizing private land trespass issues in the area. A wildlife-friendly border fence will also be constructed to mark the property boundaries and limit trespass by livestock. (Decision Notices - 10/25/2013)
Montana Fish, Wildlfie and Parks (FWP) propose to relocate the latrine at Brewery Flats Fishing Access Site to an adjacent location owned by the city of Lewistwon because the latrine's current location is set in the floodplain. Every spring the creek floods causeing the water level to reach near the roof of the unit. The unit is surround by gravel and does not have any native landscaping around it. The plan of aciton is to relocate the latrine 570 feet closer to the city of Lewistown's trial system. That location is already level and is all gravel. (Decision Notices - 10/21/2013)
Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks (FWP), Region 1, has completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the Pine Grove Pond Fishing Access Site Proposed Addition Acquisition for the purpose of accepting the donation of 5.39 acres of land northeast of Kalispell, Montana, near the Whitefish River and adjacent to the Pine Grove Pond Fishing Access Site (FAS). The proposed addition would access nearly 1,800 feet of river and would allow FWP to provide public access for fishing, wildlife viewing, and picnicking adjacent to the very popular Pine Grove Pond FAS. This addition would also allow access to and from the Whitefish River for canoeing, rafting, and kayaking. The draft EA was out for a 21-day public review through October 15, 2013. Ten comments were received, all in favor of accepting the donation. Therefore it is recommended to accept the donation pending approval by the FWP Commission and the Montana Land Board.
