Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) proposes to renew an agricultural (crop / hay) lease on 152 acres of Elk Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The proposed lease will be for a 1-year period (April 1, 2013 – March 31, 2014). The purpose of the proposed lease is to provide cover and forage for wildlife, especially white-tailed deer and pheasants.
Elk Island WMA is located near the town of Savage along the Yellowstone River in Richland County. Elk Island WMA comprises 1,585 acres; however this proposal is relevant only to approximately 152 acres. The proposed project is not expected to have significant impacts on the physical or human environment. Identified impacts are expected to be minor and of short duration.
