Recreation - Region 5

BILLINGS The Becoming an Outdoor Woman Program is sponsoring "Beartooth Botany," a full day workshop Saturday, July 14, exploring the Beartooth Plateau's diverse vegetation and habitats along US Highway 212 between Red Lodge and Cooke City. The workshop will begin in Red Lodge at 8:30 a.m.

The Beyond BOW workshop will be an in-depth exploration of alpine botany in the high country and is rated as moderately strenuous due to the 9,500-10,500 foot elevation," said Liz Lodman, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks BOW coordinator.

A free Friday evening presentation on July 13 will go over basic plant terminology, parts of the plant, helpful field guides and other publications.

Details on the Friday evening botany class and the meeting location for the day-long workshop will be sent to those who register.

The workshop fee is $25. To register call Dianne Stiff at 406-247-2940 or go to the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov on the Education page and select Becoming An Outdoors Woman to print a registration form.
