Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on proposed site improvements at Weigh Station Fishing Access Site (FAS) on the Blackfoot River near Bonner.

The proposal calls for improving the highway approach to the site, creating a designated parking area with spaces for vehicles and boat trailers, installing a concrete boat ramp and adding a latrine.

The improvements would better accommodate existing public use at the site and protect the riverbank and surrounding lands by directing parking and boat launching to designated areas.

Weigh Station FAS is also used as a game check station during the general deer/elk hunting season and proposed improvements would continue to accommodate that use

If approved, FWP plans to begin the proposed work done in the late summer or fall of 2012 during low water flows. FWP would allow as much public access as possible to anglers and floaters during construction.

A draft environmental assessment has been prepared for this proposal. Find the document online at fwp.mt.gov under “Public Notices.” Or, request it by mail from Region 2 FWP, 3201 Spurgin Rd., Missoula 59804; phone 406-542-5500; email shrose@mt.gov.

Comments can be submitted online at fwp.mt.gov under “Public Notices,” or should be directed to Chet Crowser by: mailing to the address above, phoning 406-542-5562, or emailing ccrowser@mt.gov. Comments must be received by FWP no later than 5 p.m. on July 9, 2012.
