Cooney Reservoir Re-opens after Temporary Emergency Closure
State Parks - Region 5

Saturday, July 28, 2012

(Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) is announcing that Cooney Reservoir in Cooney State Park located in Roberts, MT is re-opening Saturday, July 28 after being closed for a temporary emergency closure.

The reservoir had been closed to protect public safety while helicopters were using water buckets to dip water from the reservoir to aid in suppressing the 3,000+ acre Skibstead Fire, located approximately 2 miles northwest of Cooney State Park.

The firefighters are now comfortable enough with the current status of the fire to no longer need to use the water from Cooney Reservoir.

Since there is no longer a danger to public safety, the reservoir is going to be re-opened on Saturday.
